Surely the United Methodist Church (UMC) needs a call to action, but more certainly a call to prayer and surrender to the One who lives and reigns forever.
Nothing will change until every aspect of this church releases it’s golden calf …power, pension, politics, and prestige …
Nothing changes until we give the United Methodist church back to God …all of it in prayerful and humble surrender. Let every knee from lay person to bishop bow before God in ardent confession and silence to hear.
Nothing is reborn until we care enough to affirm that God will not wrestle this entity from our prideful clinging fingers … for God neither needs nor wants possession of any such “dead sect” as a toy trophy.
No, He will allow us to cling to the idol we have each created in our image until like chaff from a discarded branch it simply disintegrates and returns to the dust from whence it came. Even as its secular securities still visible, buildings and endowments serve only as grave markers to its demise. A warning to any others who will listen, any who still long to live and serve the Glorious One.
This is likely our last chance. For every such movement of God can not long continue without the movement of God.
Listen to what the Spirit says! Can these dry bones live again? Pray as if you truly believe the situation is desperate. Pray as if you truly believe in a God of resurrection power. Pray as if you truly believe our hope lies not with the concepts and plans of humans … but in the power of Christ.
